Marktgemeinde Mariasdorf

Mariasdorf (Hungarian Máriafalva) is a market town in southern Burgenland in Austria. Mariasdorf is known nationwide for the parish church Mariasdorf Mariä Himmelfahrt, built in the 15th century, which also adorns the municipal coat of arms.

Culture and sights

Parish Church Mariasdorf Mariae Himmelfahrt: The late Gothic parish church Mariae Himmelfahrt is one of the most beautiful churches in Burgenland. Construction was begun around 1400 on the site of an already existing church after the Kanizsay brothers received the Bernstein manor, but was probably discontinued in the early 15th century. Until then, probably only the choir room existed. At the end of the century, work continued with the construction of the nave.

Today, the Church of the Assumption of Mary serves as a Roman Catholic parish church in the Mariasdorf-Bernstein parish association in the Eisenstadt diocese.
